Josh Turek Has a Real Shot in Iowa

Josh Turek has a real chance to win the Iowa Senate race, and the trend continues to move in his direction.

The prediction markets now give Turek roughly a 45% chance of winning the seat, and recent polling has turned what once looked like a Republican hold into a legitimate toss-up. Some surveys have Turek leading Ashley Hinson, while others show a race within a few points. With less than a month to go, Iowa has become one of the races that could decide control of the United States Senate.

Nationally, the Democratic surge feels less like voters suddenly falling in love with Democrats and more like a rejection of Donald Trump and the Republican Party surrounding him.

Iowa feels different.

Turek appears to be genuinely connecting with voters. His campaign has developed an identity beyond national politics, and his personal story, moderate image, and ability to communicate with working-class Iowans are giving Democrats something more valuable than simply an anti-Trump vote.

That matters in a state like Iowa.

A Democratic victory here would dramatically strengthen the party’s path to a Senate majority, which is why this race deserves considerably more attention than it was receiving a few months ago.

This is no longer a longshot.

With Election Day approaching, Iowa looks like a true toss-up.
