Aces, Liberty, and Wings win Wild Week

The WNBA is coming off one of the most chaotic and fascinating stretches in league history. Accelerated free agency sent the majority of the league into motion at once, and the draft followed right behind it, forcing front offices to make major decisions in real time. General managers were challenged in a way that felt completely new, not just for the WNBA, but for any sport. This was not a normal offseason. It was a full-speed reshaping of the league.

When the dust settled, three teams stood out as the biggest winners: the Las Vegas Aces, the New York Liberty, and the Dallas Wings.

Las Vegas and New York have reestablished themselves as super-teams and look like the clear leaders in the championship race. The Aces kept their core together and added even more strength around it, putting themselves right back in the center of the title picture. New York answered in a major way as well, holding onto its foundation while adding more star power and depth. These are the two teams the rest of the league will be measuring itself against.

Dallas may be the most intriguing story of all. The Wings have positioned themselves to be the league’s most improved team and one of its most exciting. A backcourt built around Paige Bueckers and Arike Ogunbowale already gives Dallas explosive upside, and the addition of Azzi Fudd with the number one pick raises the ceiling even further. There is skill, shot-making, star power, and real momentum in place.

Several other teams gave their fan bases reasons to be hopeful, but these three franchises made the loudest statements. Las Vegas and New York look built to win the title right now, while Dallas looks built to rise fast. After a whirlwind stretch of free agency and the draft, the WNBA feels deeper, more aggressive, and more exciting than ever.
